My Big Art Sale is Going To Be Sunday, December 4

Linda: Boy that was some sale I had..made good money, got stuff out of the house…you know you can walk down an aisle in the basement now.

Gary: Yes I am so impressed..you realize of course, that you still need to take some more stuff out…I would like to  walk around the whole basement.

Linda: Just be happy that you can walk down one aisle. But you know what people asked me most…are you selling any original artwork?

Gary: Well you do have fans who love your work…would you consider selling some of your original art…I know you think of them as your children but maybe it is time for some of them to leave the nest just like Annie did.

Linda: Well you are probably right about that…it would be nice to know my children are out and about in new homes making people happy. Okay I will do it..but when?

Gary: You know the holidays are coming up.

Linda: Perfect! I will have a sale of my original artwork on a Sunday in December.

Gary: I think is a great thing you are doing, your artwork needs to be seen in more places.

Linda: You know that means I will need to make more artwork after I sell stuff and with the money I make I will need supplies to make those new pieces of artwork….and if I sell stuff I will have money…

Gary: Linda remember at the first sale, I said you had enough stuff to make artwork everyday for the rest of your life.

Linda: You did?

Finally cleaned up from the sale!

Phew...my sale really took time to clean up, sort out what I am going to sell on Etsy and eBay and what I was going to donate to charity! My house is still not back in order but it is almost there. The sale was spectacular..thanks to all who came and bought stuff...it was well worth it and we made really great money off of just $1 to $5 items.

My friend Corinne Blank from Goodness Recycled goodnessrecycled.blogspot.com suggested I donate any art supplies, fabric and ephemera I did not sell at my sale to this new shop in town called Upcycle Exchange. It is a wonderful shop run by a delightful woman, Autumn Wiggins. Autumn takes donations of art materials and supplies, beads, fabric, fabric scraps, yarn, embroidery floss, paper, canvas, frames, ephemera....anything that artists would need to make artwork from. If you donate to the shop you receive a card which entitles you to discounts on artwork made by artists who frequent the shop. You can also go and buy art materials by the ounce or the pound. For $20 you can fill a large square tub with whatever you want. The shop is delightful, well organized and fun to shop in. What artist does not want to buy cheaper art supplies? The shop is located off Grand on Meramec but Autumn told me she will soon be moving onto Grand between Connecticut and Humphrey. Here is her website.www.upxchange.com

A Peek at My Sale Stuff

I have been so busy sorting, bagging and pricing stuff for my sale this Saturday October 15th 8-4. Friday my mom came and helped me bag beads and today she is coming to help me sort stuff into aappropriate containers like vintage lace and appliques, beads, holiday doo dads, trinkets etc. Thanks so much Mom..you are being such a sweetie. And of course our devil of a kitten, Dexter, has been having a ball. He has managed to drag out all sorts of stuff. Like the other morning he had a bouquet of flowers in his mouth carrying them around like he was a bride. And he has lived up to his name Dexter. Anna named him Dexter after the main character of the TV show Dexter. In the TV show, Dexter is a serial killer ridding the world of evil people who escape the law. See what Dexter found among all my stuff.

My big sale of stuff is going to be October 15th!

Gary: Linda, you cannot bring anymore stuff into this house!

Linda: But I need it for my work...how am I supposed to make my collages if I do not have any stuff.

Gary: Linda, you have enough stuff to make a new piece of artwork everyday from now until you die...then if you are reborn, you could make a piece of artwork everyday of your new life until you die and then you would still have stuff left over

Linda: What if I come back as a bug...bugs cannot make artwork.

Gary: Linda, there is no room for another item in our garage, in our basement, in your studio...get rid of some stuff...I am afraid the house is going to explode.

Gary: Okay, how about I will set up a shop on Etsy and ebay and sell your stuff for you. Linda: I will think about it.

Later in the day

Linda: Gary insists I have to sell some of my stuff...he is so mean...I really do not have that much. My junk collecting is what makes me me. 

Laurie: Linda, no grown woman should have that much stuff...I agree...sell it. But before you sell it on eBay and Etsy why don’t you have a sale in your house and discount the items so all your friends and students can buy them? Whatever doesn’t sell then list those items on Etsy and ebay. Linda: What a great idea. I have a lot of feedsack fabric. Feedsack fabric sells on ebay for about $10.00 a sack. I could price my feedsacks at $7.00 and sell them to my friends. I would make money without having to list and ship the items. You know how I hate to ship stuff. My friends will be happy because they will get some premium vintage stuff, Gary will be happy that stuff is cleared out of the basement and garage. I will be happy because I can use the money to visit Annie at MCAD. I can also use the money to buy new stuff since the basement and garage will be cleared out. Let’s hit the estate sales this weekend.

Laurie: You need to sell the stuff first then we can talk estate sales.

So here it is...the first Linda you must get rid of some of your stuff sale. Believe me when I say there will be boatlaods of items for sale...you might want to bring a truck.

Fabrics: includes new fabrics, vintgage feedsack fabric, vintage 50s fabric, bags of scrap fabric both collectable and vintage
Embellishments: includes trim, appliques, ribbon, lace, etc. both vintage and new
Trinkets: bags of trinkets. with vintage and newer items in them. There will be trinket bags of animals, babies, wedding items, people, game pieces, food, holidays, cowboys and indians, dishes, cars, trucks and planes, houses, toys, Barbie shoes, etc. Most of these trinkets are dollhouse sized. There will be no clown trinkets...they all go to my clown loving friend Sara T.
Ephemera: includes old greeting cards, gift wrap, bingo cards, playing cards, all kinds of things to hang on your inspiration boards or to use to make collages
State Pennants and Snowdomes
Collectables: all kinds of stuff including holiday items, dishes, nic nacs....items I planned to sell in an antique booth.
Furniture and shelves: various shabby chic furniture I have decided to sell.


The sale is Saturday, October 15th 8:00 AM till 4:00PM. NO PRESALES!  The sale will be in my house at 6415 Murdoch, St. Louis, MO 63109. Furniture and shelves will be in the backyard. Cash and checks only.


I will not have any of my artwork for sale. I plan to have a Starving Artist’s Sale soon.

Gary: Linda do you think you are going to sell anything?
Linda: I am sure I will...I have great fun stuff and I have friends who like having too much stuff. I am sure they will want to add some of my stuff to their stuff. Then with the money I make, I can go buy some of their excess stuff.
Gary: Linda will this buying of junk ever stop?
Linda: I doubt it...I will be buying from now until eternity. You cannot stiffle creative spirit. You should have learned this in the 35 years we have been married.
Annie: Great Mom...buy all you want. Then when I inherit all this stuff, I will sell it all and take a round the world cruise.

My artwork for sale in AIGA Foodstock Charity Auction tonight

I have been swamped with a big Christmas collection I am making for Christmas 2012. So my report from the Renegade Craft Fair will have to wait till I get a little break in the action in my studio. 
Tonight is the St. Louis AIGA Foodstock Charity Auction to benefit a local food bank. As you will recall in a past post, I showed you the poster I did for the event. But besides doing the poster, I also created a piece of artwork to be auctioned off. So here is what I submitted....I call it Homage to Wayne Thiebaud..I love his paintings. What is in my studio?

It’s time to go to the Renegade Craft Show in Chicago. Tomorrow my friend Joyce and I set off from St. Louis with an empty car and I predict we will return with a packed car. What satisfaction! Also every year when I go to the Renegade Craft Show in Chicago I tell myself....Linda you do not need any more plushes from Sweater Toys. www.sweatertoys.com. And, of course, every year a new one will call out to me and home it will go to sit on my desk next to my laptop. Will there be a new one this year?  Check back and see.

What is in my studio?

I cannot usually afford outsider art but I do love to see it either in antique stores or in outsider art environments. Naive art done by non schooled artists delight me, I love the innocence and the straightforwardness of the images or sculptures. What I can afford is projects usually made by students in shop classes, Sunday afternoon painters or handmade gifts made for loved ones. One of my favorites sits in my studio holding thread for me.
